Vogue France December 2024/January 2025 : Loli Bahia by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

French Vogue might be a shadow of its former self, but the magazine still commands our attention here at theFashionSpot – for better or worse. Covers of the once-great magazine throughout 2024 have been somewhat of a flop, with not even the likes of Sophie Marceau, Céline Dion, Gigi Hadid, and Kendall Jenner having managed to win us over as cover stars. Loli Bahia is called upon to help round out the year, gracing the December 2024/January 2025 cover of Vogue France. The French beauty (and firm industry favorite) poses before the lens of Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott in the rather chic cover photograph. The photographic duo teamed up with stylist Alastair McKimm, who selected a tweed look from the Chanel Spring 2025 collection for Bahia to showcase in the high-glam cover shot.

“Now that looks like a French Vogue cover!” immediately heralded crmsn.

“I like the cover, simple but effective,” kokobombon approved.

“I am… SOLD. Love how French, chic, and polished this is. There’s a warmth from the lighting which I can appreciate this time of year, and it’s all working. Perhaps a hint of expression from Loli Bahia wouldn’t have gone amiss but I’m not complaining. Obsessed with the Robert Palmer-esque makeup look, the voluminous blunt bob, the Chanel, and the font,” praised vogue28.

Also a fan was forum member Srdjan. “I love the cover, it gives me both festive Christmas and fresh January vibes,” they praised.

Not everyone, however, was so smitten. “Everything but the face,” disapproved Lucien112.

“That hair!” Loli Bahia is so boring, her face is dead!” exclaimed DK92.

“I want to slap her just to see if she’s not dead,” yslforever commented.

The bond between Kendall Jenner and photographic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott only continues to grow, with every passing shoot. From the very beginning, when the fashion industry first began to take Jenner seriously as a model, the pairing have teamed up to shoot campaigns for the likes of La Perla, Roberto Cavalli and Calvin Klein. The all-American model and Mert Alas himself even posed alongside one another (riding a motorcycle) on the cover of Vogue Turkey back in 2018. More recently, Anna Wintour insisted on M&M photographing Kendall for American Vogue to commemorate a whole decade as a fully-fledged model. The powers that be at MO&Co. welcome Kendall (along with Mert and Marcus, obvi) for the Fall 2024 “Noir” collection campaign, aptly shot in crisp black and white, and complete with styling from Alastair McKimm.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Oh I know the checks were huge! Don’t know if having Kendall Jenner for the brand will really help MO&Co. in terms of sales as their main market is China and their presence in Europe is quite weak. The images are the usual ones – nothing to comment about,” voiced GivenchyAddict.

“It’s the same face over and over again and that lightning is not helping…” kokobombon noted.

“This is actually decent,” confessed Urban Stylin.

Vogue28 also liked what he saw, commenting: “Admittedly, this isn’t the worst I’ve seen from Kendall Jenner. Dare I even go as far as to say that I’m actually… a fan. The simplicity works, feels like something we might’ve seen from the pages of Alt’s Vogue Paris. I like the black and white teamed with the red MO&Co logo too. It’s all working!”

Marc Jacobs continues to flex his ability to secure the crème de la crème when it comes to the advertising campaigns of his eponymous fashion label. After all, Jacobs called upon none other than Kim Kardashian for Resort 2023. FKA Twigs, Dakota Fanning, Cindy Sherman, Lila Moss and more came together for Spring 2024 via the lens of Juergen Teller. More recently, Sabrina Carpenter, Vittoria Ceretti, Irina Shayk, Anok Yai, Charli XCX and Gabriette joined forces for ‘The Slack Bag‘ campaign just last month. The American designer’s casting ability continues to go from strength to strength, as he ushers in supermodel Christy Turlington to front the Marc Jacobs x Stephen Sprouse campaign. Shot by Nick Newbold and styled by Alastair McKimm, the American beauty and bonafide icon of fashion is all smiles throughout the splashy campaign, shining a spotlight on the 40th anniversary limited-edition version of Jacobs’ signature tote handbag.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“I hate the bag, but Christy Turlington is selling it so beautifully,” confessed upNorth.

“Love the campaign, shes selling those bags! The pop of green looks nice,” Urban Stylin chimed in.

Vogue28 voiced: “Christy Turlington will always and forever be a good idea, and she (obviously) looks fantastic here. However, I just wish Nick Newbold’s photography wasn’t so amateurish. Christy’s undying radiance and energetic smile are what are keeping this campaign alive for me!”

“The magic is not going to happen twice because it has been done already. This is Marc Jacobs, not Louis Vuitton,” stated THD96.

“Will Marc Jacobs ever let Stephen Sprouse rest in peace?” asked TomBlanksFullFatMiuMiu.

DK92 replied: “For his brand to stay alive, certainly not!”

Marc Jacobs stays switching it up when it comes to enlisting photographers for his various different advertising campaigns. Over recent seasons, everyone from Tyler Mitchell and Tyrone Levon to Juergen Teller and Harley Weir have been commissioned to lens campaign imagery for the designer’s eponymous brand. Added to the list with the unveiling of Jacobs’ latest is Carin Backoff. Shining a spotlight upon ‘The Sack Bag’ for Summer 2024, Jacobs endorses a whole plethora of personalities as the face and embodiment of the handbag that launched earlier this year. Sabrina Carpenter, Vittoria Ceretti, Irina Shayk, Anok Yai, Charli XCX and Gabriette make appearances throughout the vibrant and splashy campaign, each styled by Alastair McKimm and captured against a gray backdrop within Backoff’s photographic studio.

“Vittoria and Irina look great! Not sure about the panties, tho,” voiced justaguy.

“Love the photographs! Beautiful and minimal with a pop of hot, bright colors!” MModa admired.

Also very much a fan was vogue28: “The strongest Marc Jacobs campaign in what feels like forever! There’s a sense of life here, feels more… sultry and alive than recent Marc Jacobs campaigns. The casting is great, but would’ve just left it at Vittoria Ceretti, Irina Shayk and Anok Yai. Nevertheless, a thumbs up from me!”

“The girls look great but the products are not desirable…” scoffed forum member thiago.

KoV agreed, exclaiming: “Imagine getting this cast together just to hawk that bag!”

Subsequent to Sabato De Sarno bringing Daria Werbowy out of retirement for his first official campaign as Gucci’s creative director, the Italian fashion house’s campaign imagery has spiraled… into mediocrity. Not even campaigns photographed by David Sims, Tyrell Hampton or Anthony Seklaoui have managed to impress. Seklaoui appears to be a firm fave of the Italian designer, welcoming the French-Lebanese lensman back to shoot Gucci’s Summer 2024 campaign, aptly titled “Lido”. Inspired by the spirit of a quintessential Italian getaway, we’re whisked poolside along with a handful of models including Aboubakar Konte, Adele Aldighieri, Ana Rossolovich, Betty Schupp, Brando Erba, Camille Rowe, Gabriele Gherardi, He Cong, Jiahui Zhang and Victoria Fawole. Styled by Alastair McKimm, the cast frolic under the warm sunshine, and demonstrate their capabilities of breathing underwater throughout the splashy campaign.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“After the Daria Werbowy offering, I had such high hopes for Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci campaign imagery. However, I’ve been left so deflated and majorly underwhelmed by the vast majority of it. Not feeling this summer campaign whatsoever, hate the underwater concept and the random casting,” critiqued vogue28.

“Fun but it’s not Gucci. Nor it is aspirational,” voiced TaylorBinque.

GivenchyHomme felt the same way, commenting: “It’s a good idea, but it’s for the wrong brand. For a brand of this caliber, there should be glistening supermodels lounging on yacht with a Gucci bag and glass of champagne. Not at a pool in someone’s backyard.”

“The new Gucci by Sabato, and styled by Alastair Mckimm is drowning…” shared an unimpressed 90sFan.

“These people be jumping fully clothed into water! Are these items supposed to be waterproof or something?” asked Mr Yayo.

Ever since scoring her very first solo Vogue cover and landing her first major advertising gig, Kaia Gerber has remained a force to be reckoned with within the world of fashion. Last year alone saw Cindy Crawford’s mini-me grace the covers of ELLE and W Magazine (to name a select few) and became the face of mega brands Alaïa and Valentino. Not even three months into 2024 and Kaia has fronted the covers of Perfect, British Vogue, WSJ. Magazine and becomes the face of DKNY for Spring 2024. Via the lens of British photographer Alasdair McLellan and styled by Alastair McKimm, Kaia morphs into the ultimate DKNY woman throughout series of campaign portraits, helping herald a new era and a new energy of the iconic American label.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Fresh energy? Where?” asked matheus_s the second the campaign struck.

“Gap circa 2005,” scoffed MyNameIs.

Also far from delighted with the outcome was Toni Ahlgren, commenting: “I’m sorry but that’s a no from me!”

“How can she be so beautiful yet so bland?” FelipeV voiced.

DKNY’s latest ultimately had members of theFashionSpot forums a divided bunch. “I really like the photographs and art direction. Kaia looks beautiful,” MModa admired.

“A rather brilliant campaign, IMO. This is pretty much on the money for a brand like DKNY. Kaia Gerber was the perfect choice – fresh, youthful, radiant and all-American. McLellan’s distinctive and youth-orientated aesthetic only heightens the campaign, and I genuinely don’t have a bad word to say about this. Those portraits of Kaia are superb!” enthused vogue28.

“Love Kaia, always. Young and fresh,” added jeremydante.

Gucci S/S 2024 by David Sims

It’s official: David Sims is a firm fave of Sabato De Sarno. From the get-go, Gucci’s newly-instated creative director has insisted the brand’s studio-designed Fall 2023 collection be documented by Sims (showcased by model Vittoria Ceretti in the campaign) and called upon the celebrated British photographer for the Italian fashion house’s buzz-worthy jewelry campaign starring comeback queen Daria Werbowy.

De Sarno summons Sims once again with the unveiling of the Italian designer’s first official mainline advertising campaign for the Spring 2024 season, ushering in a whole new look for the brand first established in 1921. Wiping the slate clean for a new creative vision, a selection of models assemble within Sims’ photographic studio against a clean white backdrop. Complete with styling from Alastair McKimm, the fresh faces include Fadia Ghaab, Ana Rossolovich, Jiahui Zhang, Nyajuok Gatdet and Violet Hume.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“It’s a lifeless campaign from the backdrop to the group chemistry of the models. Super disappointing after such a promising start with the Daria Werbowy campaign,” said GERGIN.

“It’s clearly an attempt to reference the Fall 2004 Gucci ad but fails miserably to deliver anything,” voiced an underwhelmed grimm.

Also unimpressed was forum member tatouejeremie, adding: “A logo hoodie in a campaign in 2024? Must be a dire situation at Gucci!”

“The models have no energy, the clothes are bland, the setting is non existent and the photography is lazy,” complained GivenchyAddict.

In complete agreement was Marc10: “This collection desperately needed a strong, dynamic campaign with a star model to help elevate the clothes and create some sort of fantasy and desire. A white backdrop with bland new faces was literally the worst way to go. Terrible.”

Lookatme described the outcome as “abysmal” but do you agree?

Marc Jacobs Resort 2023 : Kim Kardashian by Tyrone Lebon

The relationship between Marc Jacobs and Kim Kardashian only continues to blossom, and the designer is welcoming back the mega star with open arms, as the face and embodiment of his namesake New York-based label for the Resort 2023 season.

Jacobs first called upon the American media personality and bonafide fashion icon for his Fall 2023 advertising campaign and a mere two months later, invites Kim back once again as the face of his eponymous brand – complete with photography from Tyler Mitchell and Alastair McKimm on styling duties. This season sees Kim ditch the dark tresses in favor of blonde, roaming a set engulfed in red latex and in one campaign image showcases Marc Jacobs’ signature Canvas Mini Tote Bag with crystal embellishments.

It doesn’t get more Marc Jacobs than a monochrome color palette and sparkles. This mini tote is embellished with all over crystals on canvas that’s intended to fade and relax over time for an authentically broken-in look that Marc himself loves to wear. Go hands-free and style as a crossbody with the adjustable webbing strap included or unclip the strap and carry by the top handles. There’s no wrong answer.

Elsewhere in the campaign, Kim rocks a pair of Jacobs’ Rhinestone Kiki Ankle Boots, which first made their appearance back in Fall 2016.

Down at the newsstand, we’ve become completely accustom to the Kardashian/Jenner clang fronting the covers of our fave fashion glossies – from Kim Kardashian posing up a storm on just about every international edition of Vogue that is in existence to sister Kendall Jenner being declared an icon via the cover of Harper’s Bazaar. Apparently, it’s now North West’s turn in the spotlight, as the 10-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West makes a surprise appearance as one of the cover stars to i-D Magazine‘s recently-unveiled Fall/Winter 2023 edition. Photographed by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Alastair McKimm, North takes part in a black and white cover story, sporting all her own clothing and accessories.

Ultimately, however, i-D‘s latest left a whole lot to be desired in the eyes of our forum members. “I wonder if there really is anyone on Earth who would consider buying a magazine because North West is on the cover…” wrote DK92.
“Why is a literal toddler covering a fashion magazine?” asked Marc10. “I get that her family is shameless and see no issue in shoving a 10yo girl into the media circus but I would hope these editors had better judgment. If you’re so desperate for nepo babies at least pick that is not in elementary school. Ridiculous.”
“How much did KK invest for this cover to happen? Terrible! Shame on i-D and I’m sure they are so proud of this ‘exclusive’,” snarled Xone.
Vogue28 commented: “Never have I minded the sight to Kim Kardashian on magazine covers but this North West cover is a downright embarrassment and receives a resounding NO from me.”
“Honestly, everyone involved should be embarrassed but especially the editors,” voiced Drusilla.

Sabato De Sarno continues to make his presence felt as Gucci’s creative director. First came the internet-breaking Daria Werbowy campaign, followed by the unveiling of the designer’s highly-anticipated debut collection during Milan Fashion Week (which was ultimately declared a flop by our forum members). Shortly after, an advertising campaign starring real-life couple Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny was thrown our way and now yet another campaign under De Sarno’s direction is revealed featuring house ambassador Billie Eilish (who needs no introduction). The campaign shot by Tyrell Hampton and styled by Alastair McKimm places a spotlight upon Gucci’s Horsebit 1955 asymmetrical handbag collection, crafted in Demetra – Gucci’s new and innovative animal-free material, resourced from 75% plant-derived raw materials.

Members of theFashionSpot forums, however, were far from impressed with the end result. “Sabato as usual keeps the bar so low,” exclaimed Polynpon the moment the campaign struck.
“Yikes,” shrieked HodanChloe.
“Yet another Gucci advertising campaign under Sabato de Sarno’s direction that I… loathe. I’m sat here beyond underwhelmed over De Sarno’s tenure,” an unforgiving vogue28 echoed.
“I’m sorry, but why? Sabato isn’t helping his notably directionless POV with yet another celebrity endorsement. I’m really confused by his propositions for Gucci,” voiced Cocteau Stone.
Sharing the same sentiments was thiago, adding: “I can barely see the bags… and that’s a terrible sign. Once again, all these stunts for nothing. Every now and then they release and ad with a star that doesn’t really bring anything to the table. Everything sounds/looks/feels so desperate!”
