Harper’s Bazaar Italia has undergone some major restructuring over recent months. Massimo Russo was named editor-in-chief (succeeding Daria Veledeeva). Stefano Tonchi became editorial director. Paul Sinclaire was appointed fashion editor at large last month. Creative director Marc Ascoli was replaced by Lee Swillingham and Stuart Spalding. The first issue under the new team last month gave us a whole plethora of covers lensed by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. Taking to the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Italia for November 2024 is Libby Bennett. The British model poses for photographer Alasdair McLellan across a duo of covers, centered around the theme of youth. Styled by Alice Goddard, Bennett wears looks from Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton in the two vibrant cover photographs.

To kick-start Bazaar‘s Italia’s latest chapter and to officially usher in the changing of the guard, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin were commissioned as cover shoot photographers. The Dutch creative duo produces four collectible black and white covers for the occasion, featuring four models of the moment. Cover one sees Nigina Sharipova strike a pose in Alaïa. On the second cover, Libby Bennett takes to the streets of Paris in monochromatic Balenciaga. Ella Mccutcheon gazes down I&V’s lens wearing Chanel on the third cover offering. The fourth and final cover sees Vivienne Rohner take a walk along The Seine (also sporting Chanel).

Veledeeva commissions Italian Bazaar regular Nathaniel Goldberg to capture the May 2024 cover shoot, complete with styling from Sissy Vian. In the ethereal cover image, the fresh-faced French beauty appears angelic wearing a white creation from Demna’s Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2024 collection.

The relaunch of Harper’s Bazaar Italia continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. Under the tutelage of Daria Veledeeva, Italian Bazaar continues to go from strength to strength. Veledeeva closed out 2023 with a duo of dynamic Nick Knight-shot covers and is commencing 2024 by enlisting Willy Vanderperre, Nathaniel Godlberg and Viviane Sassen as cover photographers – to great success. Models Rianne van Rompaey, Ella Mccutheon and Ali Dansky become cover girls in the process. As a result, the girls each pose across a range of covers for both print and digital.

Ultimately, Rianne’s installment caught the most attention from members of theFashionSpot forums. Captured by Vanderperre, Rianne is styled by Olivier Rizzo wearing a translucent chiffon dress from Prada’s Spring 2024 collection in the stark and minimalist cover image. The digital cover (after the jump), sees the Dutch beauty and current face of Prada dressed in Maison Margiela, serving regal ladylike glamour.

Issue #8 is here for the December 2023 (which is effectively Bazaar Italia’s second first anniversary), and editor Daria Veledeeva gifts us not one but two fantasy-inspired covers lensed by renowned fashion photographer Nick Knight. French model Apolline Rocco Fohrer appears on cover one (below), sporting glossy hair and an icy makeup look, wearing an embellished number from Giorgio Armani. In cover two (after the jump), Indian model Avanti Nagrath is dressed in an embroidered cape from Dolce & Gabbana. The two covers are complete with styling from the publication’s fashion director Sissy Vian.

Bazaar Italia’s latest ignited conversation amongst theFashionSpot forum members immediately. “There was everything that could go wrong, but somehow I like it…,” voiced DK92 upon seeing Apolline’s cover.

“Great theme for December,” instantly approved MModa.

“Makes me imagine Apolline as a mermaid,” forum member tigerrouge chimed in.

“The cover with Apolline Rocco Fohrer by Nick Knight is divine! It feels edgy yet festive, extremely fashion-forward and I instantly recognized that heavenly Giorgio Armani dress. The colors are gorgeous too, really love every aspect of that cover,” raved vogue28.

The competition between fashion titles is fierce, and within the Italian market, Harper’s Bazaar Italia continues to rise the ranks and outshine Vogue Italia. Under the direction of editor Daria Veledeeva, the publication goes from strength to strength, month after month, with the unveiling of each new issue. Fashion models Felice Nova Noordhoff, Mariacarla Boscono and Maty Fall have became cover girls in the process, and added to the list for November 2023 is Sun Mizrahi and América González. The pair pose for photographer Daniel Jackson across a duo of dynamic black and white covers. Complete with styling from Paul Sinclaire, the fashion beauties don looks from Hedi Slimane’s Celine and Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent.

This month, however, appeared to be a setback for Italian Bazaar in the eyes of our forum members. “Engaging… the covers are not,” critiqued MON.

“The two covers don’t excite me at all. Bland direction,” chimed in MModa.

“This magazine’s covers feel so bland, so boring and so empty. A magazine cover is an art. To create a cover it’s not just to stick the masthead logo, put a word on it and a call it a day. It takes WAY MORE CREATIVITY,” forum member Bertrando3 scolded.

Yet not everyone was so disapproving. “I love Sun’s strong features paired with that styling,” kokobombon admired.

“Two terrific covers from Daniel Jackson! Simplicity done right, love the black and white here. I genuinely do not have one single complaint about either of the covers. They feel quintessential Harper’s Bazaar, which I love! Harper’s Bazaar Italia wiping the floor with Vogue Italia this month,” enthused vogue28.

We don’t know where you’ve been if you weren’t aware that Harper’s Bazaar Italia relaunched (to great fanfare) back in 2022, with the magazine’s first reintroduction to print for December giving us a trifecta of terrific Alix Bouthers, Vittoria Ceretti and Assa Baradji covers. Now, six issues in and under the control of editor Daria Veledeeva, Craig McDean captures models Mila Van Eeten and Maty Fall for October 2023. The two models-of-the-moment take to two separate print covers for the occasion, both complete with styling from Katie Shillingford. In cover one (below), Mila who hails from the Netherlands poses on the studio floor wearing a sequined Gucci dress and red kitten heels from the Italian fashion house, while Senegalese-Italian beauty Maty (after the jump) is styled in head-to-toe Christian Dior.

Call the members of forums impressed. “I like it!” simply stated mikel upon checking out Mila’s cover.
“I like it too, replied DK92 in agreement. “Simple yet different!”
“Craig McDean still got it, I like this cover a lot,” approved fenty.
Forum member Ihhbl commented: “Maty looks lovely, as always! She’s such a beautiful girl. Mila’s cover is more captivating though. Good use of angles!”
“Both covers are charming. The first one makes Mila look like a fairy, so cute and innocent,” admired oaklee91.
“I really like the first one. It feels like a reference to Bazaar under Nancy White in the 1960s. A smart way to play with the layout,” commended blueorchid.
Vogue28 shared the same level of enthusiasm, adding: “Mila Van Eeten’s cover is fabulous. I usually loathe rotated cover imagery (i.e. the August cover of Vogue France) but this is a prime of example of how rotated imagery can work perfectly, with an artistic and stylized effect. The cover itself is so simple, yet so effective and the whole minimalism works wonders. A firm 10/10 from me!”
