Since September 2021, Inés Lorenzo has been installed at the top job at Vogue Spain. As the Spanish fashion bible’s head of editorial content, Lorenzo most definitely has a select few favorites she likes to welcome back as cover stars. Rosalía and Penélope Cruz are two of them. You can add Jill Kortleve to that list too, with the unveiling of the magazine’s June 2024 offering. Eighteen months after her last, the Dutch beauty makes a return to the Spanish fashion bible’s front cover via the lens of Dan Martensen. In the cover shot (plucked from the pages of British Vogue‘s June 2024 edition), Kortleve is styled by Clare Richardson down on a beach in Mallorca, Spain and sits perched on the rocks wearing a polka dot dress from Dolce & Gabbana.

Nina Garcia stays winning at American ELLE. After all, Garcia (who has served as editor-in-chief since 2017) continues to secure the crème de la crème of the world of fashion and entertainment as the magazine’s cover stars. Everyone from Vittoria Ceretti and Nicole Kidman to Irina Shayk and Dua Lipa have graced the Hearst-owned title of late, with Anya Taylor-Joy added to the list with the unveiling of ELLE‘s double June/July 2024 edition. Garcia welcomes the actress and star of George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga three years after her last, to pose for photographer Dan Martensen and get dressed up by stylist Anastasia Barbieri. In cover one (below), Taylor-Joy poses in a multi-colored dress from Bottega Veneta’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection. For the second, black and white cover (after the jump), the red carpet maven wears a Givenchy Pre-Fall 2024 leather and lace dress teamed with a pair of boots from Victoria Beckham.

It’s unfortunate that Vogue Germany is a shadow of its former self. Within the space of several months, only one cover with Grace Elizabeth has managed to command our attention. Given the fact there is nothing like a supermodel to propel a magazine back into the spotlight, the German fashion bible selects Naomi Campbell for its double July/August 2022 offering. The living legend fronts the publication four years after her last appearance this time captured by photographer Dan Martensen. In the cover portrait, the fashion icon showcases a look from Christian Dior’s Fall 2022 haute couture collection courtesy of Kate Phelan.

Members of our forums aren’t sold, however. “A holographic shower curtain with a badly Photoshopped Naomi Campbell in front of it warrants a collector’s item these days?” asked Melancholybaby.

“What a dull cover and the holographic effect just makes it less collectible. Naomi seems to be in the phase of her career where she’s willing to be photographed by anyone as long as she’s guaranteed a cover,” said mepps.

“Unfortunately, this doesn’t really work,” expressed a disapproving Urban Stylin.

“Dull styling, dull photography. I don’t like the pose or the hair or the dress. A complete miss, sadly!” proclaimed aracic.

“Naomi is an icon, but her work lately doesn’t live up to that moniker. There is none of the energy and vibrancy here as in any of her work during her heyday. That is one seriously dull cover,” dfl-001 pointed out.

“The cover is far from Naomi Campbell’s finest moment and I find everything from the styling to the photography bland,” echoed vogue28.

Despite being one of the most in-demand models, we haven’t felt Kendall Jenner’s presence down at newsstands this year. (Especially compared to years gone by.) Over the last 12 months, the all-American beauty has fronted a total of four Vogue covers: Vogue China, Vogue Hong Kong, Vogue Spain and now Vogue Germany. Making a return to the German fashion bible five years after her last appearance, Kendall helps the magazine close the chapter on 2021. Captured under clear blue skies, Kendall looks fresh and radiant sporting a barely-there makeup look and a knitted cut-out dress from Longchamp’s Fall 2021 collection for the image taken by Dan Martensen.

The end result took our forum members by surprise. “I like it. She looks gorgeous here, very soft and natural…” noted Benn98.

“This is perhaps one of my favorite Kendall Jenner covers so far, she looks very beautiful and the cover itself feels very fresh. Would’ve been a better fit for January with something more festive for December, but I’ll take it!” approved aracic.

“I personally think she looks beautiful! She’s not a great model, but this is one of her best covers,” expressed charles01.

“I like the direction of this cover. It’s natural, fresh, raw and youthful,” raved oaklee91.

“She looks amazing and gives genuine emotion for once. Her marketing/management team should focus on this type of print work because this is what she excels at,” shared FashionMuseDior.

GivenchyHomme could not agree more: “This is exactly the type of modeling she should be doing, not quite commercial and not quite high fashion, a middle ground. This shoot was a success because she is completely in her element here.”

“It’s very relatable Malibu beach girl, smiling and carefree. It’s what she excels at because it requires no skill from her, she doesn’t need to transform into any sort of character. It’s the kind of shoot she could do blindfolded,” voiced marsnoop2.

Our forums tend to loathe it when magazines produce multiple covers for a single issue. Not so with American ELLE, however, which nailed the covers for its ‘Women In Comedy’ edition back in July and killed it for the annual ‘Women In TV’ issue back in January. Now it’s time for ELLE‘s annual ‘Women In Hollywood’ issue featuring Aja Noami King, Amy Adams, Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, Helen Mirren, Kathy Bates, Kristen Stewart and Lupita Nyong’o, each photographed for a solo cover by Dan Martensen.

Whose cover came out on top? As always, our forum members weren’t afraid to voice their opinions. “I think they all look great, they managed to style them just right,” kokobombon approved instantly, setting the tone for comments to follow.

“These are gorgeous. Kristen’s is by far my favorite. Everyone is styled so well. Well done ELLE,” echoed Bobby153.

Also an admirer of how things turned out was Benn98. “Everybody looks great here, quite a feat for ELLE. Love the styling on Helen and Kristen, Felicity’s makeup. Not sure who the first lady is, but her cover is the best for me,” he pointed out.

Sharing the same sentiments was Miss Dalloway: “This is fantastic! Great balance of up and comping & established women. My favorites are Kathy Bates (what a beautiful cover shot of her) and Helen! But I like them all.”

Honeycombchild felt the same way, expressing, “Great selection of images for the covers and a great selection of people to feature. It’s nice to see a good age range in there. Aja looks beautiful and I like Felicity’s too.”

Our forum members sure were in the mood for Turkish Vogue‘s new cover…at first. “I like how natural and simple this cover looks,” approved liaa straight away.

“Great for Andreea. She is so beautiful. It’s a pleasure to see her on Vogue covers,” warranted a more than content narcyza.

“I’m loving Andreea Diaconu more and more. As simple as this. She reminds me of Angela Lindvall,” pointed out Tony Fersen.

But not everyone was so satisfied. “Finally something effortless for a change. A tad too carefree for a Vogue cover though (more suited to H&M), but it’s definitely an upgrade for Vogue Turkey,” commended Benn98, the first to point out a few complaints.

“I don’t like the color scheme, everything seems to blend in together but I do like the effortless vibe,” echoed kokobombon in response.

MON wasn’t overly impressed either, sharing, “She looks gorgeous! However, this is not made for a Vogue cover. There has to be a better shot!”

In agreement was KateTheGreatest: “Very happy for Andreea, and Dan Martensen is cool too so I hope the editorial will be good. This shot is okay but it isn’t really cover material.”

But ELLE‘s new cover fell completely flat for our forum members. “It really blows my mind how they rarely do her stunning face justice! What kind of angle is that?!! I have seen her look better in paparazzi snaps!” expressed a horrified Miss Dalloway.

“Super sloppy and pedestrian. WTF were they thinking when shooting this cover?” questioned fluxxx right after.

In agreement was justaguy, pointing out, “What a shame, Kerry’s so beautiful and classy, but not feeling this cover at all.”

Forum member nataliaapple felt the same way, echoing, “The best she’s looked in print was for Net-a-Porter’s The Edit. This looks like she rolled out of bed and forgot to fix her wig and slept in her makeup. If I want to see photos like this I’ll pick up Us Weekly… This is completely unacceptable.”

“Terrible styling on the cover! This [Robbie] Myers woman has no sense of fashion. And it’s beginning to become clear that Kerry simply isn’t cut out for print,” shared an underwhelmed Benn98.

“OMG. It’s terrible! The worst cover of Kerry ever. What a pity!” exclaimed narcyza.

KINGofVERSAILLES simply declared the cover an “abomination.”

Members of our forums were less than impressed with the outcome. “What an underwhelming set of covers. Fresh faces? These 2 have been around for quite some time now,” complained MON as the covers started to surface. “I wonder why they felt the need to do multi-cover? I’d understand if it were all about the NEW talents then by all means give them all a cover.”

“None of these girls are fresh faces especially Zoë Kravitz, she’s been on these rising star list for about 10 years now,” echoed HodanChloe.

“They are awful but I’m dying to know if Iggy actually sells. Does anyone even like her?” KateTheGreatest asked.

Forum member tigerrogue later humored, “I know I’m looking at their faces, but I feel the choice is bum or boobs, because that’s what each is known for.”

Not everyone was left completely underwhelmed, though. “I actually don’t mind the covers. Marie Claire never has the best covers out of the fashion magazines. They are always just ‘eh’. But it is nice to see Iggy get some magazine covers. I’m surprised it took them this long,” RanThe appreciated.

“I really don’t think they’re BAD covers considering some of the actual atrocities we see monthly, they’re just uneventful,” added thenewclassic.
