Vogue Mexico December 2024 : Angelina Jolie by Dan Martensen

You will never EVER hear us complaining over the sight of Angelina Jolie here at theFashionSpot. Whether she is commanding our attention as the face of Tom Ford Beauty, oozing old-Hollywood glamour on major red carpets across the globe, or showing us her wild side via the covers of CR Fashion Book – we stan the American actress, filmmaker, and humanitarian hard. Ahead of the release of Netflix’s “Maria” on December 11 (in the US), Angelina Jolie appears on the cover of Vogue Mexico for December 2024. Complete with styling from Stella Greenspan, Jolie gazes down the lens of photographer Dan Martensen in a little black Christian Dior dress.

“Not good,” voiced caioherrero the moment the cover dropped.

“She looks really sad here, like she got the worst possible news just before she walked on set,” noted a disappointed URIAH.

Also not exactly best impressed was forum member kokobombon. “This looks so low budget,” they called out.

“These look like outtakes. It takes skill to make Angelina Jolie look this bad,” shrieked Hchloe.

“That’s quite an unflattering shot of Angelina Jolie. Not her best angle. That being said, I like the coloring and the simplicity of it all,” shared vogue28.

“What I like about the cover and all of the photographs of Jolie is how real they look,” MModa appreciated.

Ivano also liked what they saw, commenting: “I love the idea of Angelina Jolie as a cover star. Her face at least wasn’t retouched in such a way magazines do!”

Eva Mendes has been having somewhat of a resurgence, and we are 100% here for it. The Cuban-American actress-turned-author recently became the face of Stella McCartney (alongside British singer-songwriter Raye) and takes to the cover of Vogue Mexico for October 2024. Throughout 2024, the Mexican fashion bible has ranked the likes of Amelia Grey, Christy Turlington, Georgina Rodríguez, and Selena Gomez as cover stars. Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin American enlist Eva Mendes as cover girl this month, who poses for photographer Emma Summerton. In the sharp and crisp cover image, shot in black and white, Mendes is dressed by stylist Leith Clark in a white handmade lace jumpsuit from Magda Butrym.

“She looks gorgeous,” exclaimed thiago upon checking out the cover.

“Massively here for this Eva Mendes resurgence, always thought she was drop dead gorgeous. Fab to see Eva back on the cover of Vogue, will always adore that Vogue Italia cover. Absolutely love this Vogue Mexico cover, and how she’s styled, and the crisp black and white,” raved vogue28.

Urban Stylin added: “Eva’s comeback is next level! Not sure about the cover, it was a beautiful image without putting her hand in her mouth. It makes her lips look like they were done. I love some pictures from the editorial but some not so much. That mirror shot is classic Eva Mendes, and should have been a cover image!”

Given that Emmanuelle Alt’s Vogue Paris is no longer, it seems Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin have subsequently set up shop with Karla Martínez de Salas at Vogue Mexico. In 2023, the Dutch photographic duo were called upon to capture Irina Shayk and Anna Ewers as Vogue Mexico cover girls. More recently, back in March, the creative twosome turned the lens toward Christy Turlington, Angelina Kendall, Mahany Pery (and others) for a series of celebratory and collectable covers. Amelia Gray and Mathilda Gvarliani are the latest to pose for I&V on Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America for June 2024. In the Mexican Vogue cover photograph (below), Amelia takes to the wrestling ring wearing Louis Vuitton while for the Latin America counterpart (after the jump), Mathilda is dressed by stylist Valentina Collado in archival Jean Paul Gaultier.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Both are terrible. The concept of Lucha Libre within the Mexican culture is a good idea. However, the covers are awful,” shrieked Alejandra Isami.

“Love the idea, hate the execution. All looks so amateur and beneath I&V,” Xone chimed in.

“I don’t know where to point the blame,” added marsnoop2. “Imagine back in the day how many countless editorials were cancelled for far less egregious reasons!”

Mikel pointed out: “I like it when I&V are going back to a cut and paste style. But without M/M Paris involved it looks really weak.”

Also far from impressed was aracic. “This looks utterly cheap and horrid and I can’t believe that it is produced by the same people who once used to create magic together,” he critiqued.

“I thoroughly despise collage covers. I’ve never seen a good one, and the bad ones are worse than awful,” shared forum member tigerrouge.

There’s something in the air at Vogue Mexico HQ and we 100% approve. Under the tutelage of editor Karla Martínez de Sala, the magazine continues to go from strength to strength and commands the attention of us here at theFashionSpot every month – without fail. The unveiling of the March 2024 installment bestows upon us a fashion and model extravaganza via the lens of photographic duo Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. Across not one but six striking covers, models Christy Turlington, Raquel Zimmermann, Angelina Kendall, Mahany Pery, Conie Vallese and Sara Caballero channel some serious retro glamour, styled by Valentina Collado in new season looks from Bottega Veneta, Max Mara, Gucci, Miu Miu, Rick Owens and Saint Laurent.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Love the 80s vibe of Angelina’s cover,” enthused mikel.

“Phwaaar, look at Vogue Mexico! Angelina Kendall’s cover is nothing short of spectacular. Absolutely flawless, love the strong sense of retro glamour from the beauty styling and how I’m transported back to the covers of Vogue Paris during the 80s. Mahany Pery’s cover is just as flawless. I am OBSESSED with this!” raved vogue28.

Not everyone, however, was so besotted with Mexican Vogue‘s latest. “Yikes, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Christy Turlington look worse! What on earth happened here?” asked aracic.

Avonlea002 felt the same way, echoing: “Poor Christy, I have never seen her look this bad!”

“Inez & Vinoodh’s work here is diabolical! Christy looks terrible. Raquel and Mahany both look off, and only Angelina Kendall looks good. The Photoshop is atrocious!” exclaimed WAVES.

Blueorchid wasn’t feeling it either, expressing: “The lighting is so so so so bad. What were they thinking? Obviously they’re trying to re-capture 80s glam on the covers, but they’re lacking the softness of that lighting and photography. There was a glow to those 80s glamour portrait Vogue covers. These are just harsh and ugly.”

Last year was a fine moment for Vogue Mexico and editor Karla Martínez de Salas. After all, covers of the magazine featured a bevy of A-list talent including everyone from Irina Shayk to Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B to Anna Ewers. To kick-start 2024, Selena Gomez was welcomed as cover girl and on the February 2024 installment is Georgina Rodríguez. Via the lens of photographer Javier Biosca and styled by Joana de la Fuente, Georgina attempts to prove the notion less is always more across a duo of simplistic covers. The Argentine-born Spanish media personality and Guess brand ambassador wears a black knitted top from Guess in the Mexican Vogue cover (below), and poses in crisp white shirt also from the American fashion label in the Vogue Latin America cover alternative (after the jump).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Given that so much in fashion has become lifeless, I have a soft spot for Guess ads, because they’re consistent in selling you their own version of glamorous vulgarity, a world where everyone always has big hair. Seeing Georgina on this cover, in a more simple look, feels low-energy in comparison to those campaigns,” voiced tigerrouge.

“For me, this is another disaster from Vogue Mexico. Everything is so lazy. Even Georgina’s Guess campaigns are much better than this,” exclaimed Xone.

Kokobombon admitted: “Wow, much better than I was expecting. I wish she was looking at the camera though!”

In complete agreement was vogue28, echoing: “All for the sense of simplicity here. However, my biggest pet peeve of subjects not engaging and looking directly out to us readers is killing these two covers for me.”

“Both covers are beautiful. I love their simplicity, polish, gloss, and elegance. Vogue Mexico publishes some of my favorite covers these days,” raved MModa.

Vogue Mexico January 2024 : Selena Gomez by Michael Bailey-Gates

Selena Gomez has been pretty much a constant on the covers of Vogue, ever since Vogue Brazil welcomed the American hitmaker onto her very first back in June 2016. Covers for Vogue Australia (on two seperate occasions), Vogue Singapore and American Vogue (again, twice) have since followed. Karla Martínez de Salas is quick to welcome Gomez back onto the cover of Vogue Mexico with the unveiling of the magazine’s January 2024 installment, as she’s captured all smiles for photographer Michael Bailey-Gates. Posing beside two giant floral displays in the charming cover photograph, the now 8-time Vogue cover girl is dressed by stylist Clare Byrne in a look from Prada’s Spring 2024 collection.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This is so wrong… Selena looks like she wants to pee! She is going strong to be the singer with the worst covers in history. I still have NIGHTMARES about the tragedy that is her cover for V Magazine!” DK92 exclaimed.

“Why this? Starting off 2024 bad Vogue Mexico. They need a new team, obviously…” called out Xone.

“Aaaayyyyyy noo,” shrieked oaklee91, suggesting they’d seen better covers.

The Ghost of the Castle asked, “Is Selena Gomez even an ambassador to any fashion brand right now?”

“Seriously, will anything ever compare to when Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott photographed Selena for American Vogue‘s April 2017 issue? To this day, it remains the gold standard of Selena’s magazine covers and apparently no other creative individual wishes to outdo it,” noted vogue28.

Make no mistake that Karla Martinez de Salas has ramped it up throughout 2023, sat perched at the top job of both Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America. Covers over the past twelve month have included a bevy of A-list talent including everyone from Irina Shayk to Jennifer Lopez and Cardi B to Anna Ewers. To round out 2023, model Paloma Elsesser is welcomed onto both the covers of Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America for December, which are an ode to family. The team (including photographer Camila Falquez and stylist Devin Hershey) traveled to the small town of La Jordana in Mexico for the occasion, visiting the family home of hairstylist Evanie Frausto. Across the duo of covers, Paloma is dressed by Falquez in looks from Fendi Haute Couture (below) and Marc Jacobs (after the jump).

Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America’s latest took members of theFashionSpot forums by surprise. “Not a fan of hers but this really worked!” confessed Ihhbl.

“I actually like it,” MON echoed in complete agreement.

Crmsn felt the same way, commenting: “She usually doesn’t translate well in editorials, but these are good covers.”

“Love the first cover in the sheer black dress. I think Paloma looks Divine,” raved MModa.

“The best Paloma Elsesser has ever looked. The first one is a good cover – now she looks like a model,” applauded ivano.

However, not all of our forum members were in the same frame of mind. “Must be the only one who thinks the hairstyle on Paloma looks dreadful, and I am sick to absolute death of these fashion shoots with sheets used as backdrops,” complained vogue28.

Oaklee91 wasn’t sold either, expressing: “Kinda bland for me!”

Don’t be sleeping on Vogue Mexico. Over recent months, the magazine which remains under the direction of editor Karla Martínez de Salas has managed to eclipse Vogue editions across the globe with terrific and buzz-worthy covers starring the likes of Irina Shayk, Anna Ewers, Jennifer Lopez and Alessandra Ambrosio. Due to the fact it’s a September issue, Mexican Vogue has seemingly pulled out all the stops and gave us none other than Cardi B as their cover girl for the title’s biggest offering of the year. The now three-time Vogue cover girl poses for photographer Alique across two unique and ultra-glamorous covers, decked out in a showstopping Schiaparelli haute couture creation in cover one (below) and a chic all-black Saint Laurent outfit for cover two (after the jump).

Mexican Vogue‘s latest had members of our forums a divided bunch. “Look at Cardi B out-modeling the supermodels! There is more charisma and glamour here than the American and British covers this month. I think Cardi looks absolutely fabulous, her hair looks flawless and she’s really serving us the glam,” raved aracic.
“Love it,” simply declared Gaultier_Bandit.
“No fan of Cardi B’s music here but these are, without question, some of the strongest September covers we’ve seen! Absolutely love how Cardi has photographed via Alique’s lens, love the photography overall, the styling and the beauty styling serves Cardi justice. It’s all just so perfectly executed, that I cannot help but to instantly love this,” vogue28 admitted.
Not everyone, however, shared the same enthusiasm. “What is this mess,” voiced NYLA22.
“Her body shape is horrendous in the Saint Laurent. It ruins what could have been her best cover,” noted an unforgiving GivenchyAddict.
“Mixed feelings… on one hand, I like Cardi B and I think this is the exact kind of makeover I want to see on Vogue. However, what terrible retouching or whatever mess this is,” Lola701 critiqued.

This month the in-demand model looks sublime on the July 2022 covers of Vogue Mexico (below) and Vogue Latin America (after the jump). Mexico doesn’t take our fancy frequently. Only covers with Shakira and Alessandra Ambrosio caught our attention recently. Now for June 2022 Karla Martinez de Salas welcomes Millie Bobby Brown to the Mexican fashion bible’s front cover marking the first Vogue cover for the actress best known for her role on Netflix’s Stranger Things. As a Louis Vuitton brand ambassador, Millie naturally wears a polka dot blouse from the brand’s Spring 2022 collection courtesy of stylist Maya Zepinic for the charming Claudia Knoepfel-shot image.

The end result divided our forums. “She’s 18 years old, right? Looks like she’s 30 and giving Keira Knightley vibes for some reason. Could and should be better,” critiqued WAVES.

“She looks like Natalie Portman in Black Swan. She doesn’t look like an 18-year-old girl,” echoed caioherrero.

“Millie Bobby Brown is going to have some interesting things to say about life when she’s 40 (when she’ll probably look 18),” joked tigerrouge.

“Sometimes I see photos of Millie Bobby Brown and literally have no idea who it is,” SophiaVB chimed in.

“Another forgettable cover for Vogue Mexico. Something is not working here. Claudia is a good photographer, but there is bad editing…” declared a disapproving Xone.

“Someone I would never expect to see on the cover of this edition of Vogue. Globalization at its finest,” stated marsnoop2.

Although not everyone agreed. “I’m able to appreciate there are zero gimmicks with the cover shot, it’s just a straightforward portrait image from Claudia Knoepfel, which shows Millie Bobby Brown in a very flattering light with lovely beauty and fashion styling,” noted vogue28.
